Statement of significant interest
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a performing rights society as defined by 17 U.S. Code Section 101 which licenses the nondramatic public performances of over 1,000,000 songwriter and publisher members. ASCAP has a significant interest in the subject matter of this proceeding as, on behalf of its members, it negotiates rates and terms with respect to the nondramatic public performances of its members' copyrighted musical works made by public broadcasting entities pursuant to Section 118 of Title 17 of the U.S. Code, including with respect to public performances made by such entities during the 2028-2032 period. ASCAP has filed a petition to participate, and has so participated, in every Section 118 proceeding since the inception of the Section 118 statutory license.
