Statement of significant interest
National Public Radio (NPR) has a significant interest in the outcome of this proceeding as NPR-member public radio stations are “public broadcasting entities” within the meaning of 17 U.S.C. § 118 and rely on the Section 118 license for the musical compositions included in their programming. NPR is a non-profit entity committed to serving a noncommercial, educational purpose, and its educational programming is made freely available to the American people. NPR—along with the Public Broadcasting Service—has participated in every Section 118 proceeding since the inception of the Section 118 statutory license.
