Major League Soccer, L.L.C. produces live sporting events, owns thecopyright in that programming, and has submitted claims forstatutory royalties from the respective cable and satellite royaltyfunds. Petitioner is a Distribution Phase claimant for cable andsatellite royalties within the Joint Sports Claimant category.Petitioner understands that there are other claimants seeking ashare of the Joint Sports Claimant category allocations, but it hasnot reached settlement with any other potential Distribution PhaseJoint Sports Claimants. Based on discussions to date, while Petitioner remains optimistic that it will reach a Distribution Phasesettlement with the other Distribution Phase parties, it is probablethat a Distribution Phase proceeding will be necessary to resolvethese disputes. Therefore, Petitioner has a significant interest in thesubject matter of the Distribution Phase proceeding.
